Interesting Facts About Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata That You Probably Never Knew.
He is married to Madam Esther Cobbah,the couple are blessed with three children of whom the Famous Award winning Ghanaian Rapper M.anifest is a part. He is a stout Christian ,an elder at the Asbury Dunwell Church in Accra.
Mr Tsikata grew up in Adabraka a suburb of Accra the capital of Ghana.
He served as a junior counsel for Mr William Ofori Attah a member of the big six. He is the former chief executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and also a legal counsel to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Tsikata started school at an early age as who always wanted to follow Fui ,his big brother to school.
He started school at Additrom prep.School and Mrs Sam Prep school , the Alma mata of Former President Jerry John Rawlings. He was jumped from year 2 to year 3 when he went to Accra Newton Experimental School. He won a scholarship to further his education at the Mfantsipim school where his dad and elder brother also attended
He went to University of Ghana where he obtained an LL.B First class degree at age 18 he won a scholarship to study at Oxford University where he graduated again with first class in and a Bachelor of Civil Law.
He later held a Junior Research Fellowship at the University of Oxford and also served as a tutor.
He then return back to Ghana in 1974 , and was appointed a lecturer at the University of Ghana's law Faculty where he tutored some notable personalities like Freddie Blay,Alban Bagbin, Kwamena Ahwoi and many more
Mr. Tsikata was counsel for Jerry John Rawlings during the treason trial that later ended when the Fred Akuffo led SMC military government was overthrown on 4 June 1979.
Mr. Tsatsu refused a presidential unconditional pardon(13 January 2009) for a five year jail sentence by the then president John Kuffour . This trial is one of Ghana's longest court cases. He was tried for causing financial lost to the state at the time he was still the CEO of Ghana National Petroleum Company. The trial started in 2002 and lasted for six years in a Fast Track Tribunal.
Mrs. Justice Henrietta Abban on 18 June 2008 pronounced Mr. Tsikata guilty.
This led to the formation of "Free Tsatsu Movement" . He went on admission at the Korle Teaching Hospital when he suffered from a severe bout of asthma but was still under prison guard.
Mr. Tsikata's 5 year jail term was quashed when he was finally declared innocent on 30 November 2016 by an Appeal Court presided over by Justice Dennis Adjei.
He was the lawyer for the NDC's presidential candidate Mr. John Dramani Mahama in the 2020 election petition hearing in the supreme Court.
Mr. Tsikata has proven time and time again and inarguably that he is the best lawyer Ghana ever had.
Due to his exceptional and brilliance in law he has been Nick named the "Law Faculty"
It's of the views of many that the supreme Court be named after Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata.
