  Abandoned and delayed projects cost Ghana GHS35.4 million in 2020 according to an audit report released by the Auditor-General on the use of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF). The figure forms part of contract irregularities committed by various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) totalling GHS45.69 million. Despite these gaps, the Auditor-General’s department noted that MMDAs still awarded fresh projects when earlier ones had not been completed. This led to a suspension of work because of non-payment of work certificates. For example, the North Gonja District Assembly spent GHS370,270.24 on four projects awarded in 2016 but have been abandoned at various stages of completion. The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has proposed that the Electoral Commission be split into two as part of an ongoing electoral reform proposal by the party. According to the party, one of the two bodies of the proposed Electoral Commission (EC) will be in charge of regulating activities of the various political parties and the other will be strictly handling elections. Communications Officer of the party, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, confirmed to the Daily Graphic media reports about the NDC’s proposal for the Electoral Commission to be split into two. “It’s authentic and that is part of the reform proposal we are submitting to the EC”, Mr Gyamfi said. This, the party said, would also see to the amendment of the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574). “Split the EC into two separate bodies namely an Office for the Regulation of Political Parties (ORPP) and an Electoral Commission (EC) by amending the Political Parties Act, 2000, Act 574,” NDC’s 10th proposal reads.

The establishment of Ghacem Limited marked a major turning point in Ghana’s development. Ghacem was founded by the Government of Ghana in collaboration with Norcem AS of Norway, on August 30, 1967.  Ghacem has since inception produced more than 30 million tons of cement. Ghacem wants to continue to be Ghana’s biggest cement manufacturer and supply the market with good quality cement at a reasonable price.  Ghacem is investing additional USD100million to build a new factory in kumasi as well as expand the Tema and Takoradi factories. This will be a 1.5million tons cement producing facility. This will create more direct and indirect jobs for Ghanaians, increase household income, produce more quality cement using raw materials from the Eastern region, this was anounced on their instagram page.
