Commotion As NPP supporters in Juaboso besiege Assembly members to demand their money after failing to confirm nominee

  Assembly members of the Sefwi Juaboso District in the Western North region have voted against President Akufo-Addo’s nominee, Godfred Kwabena Adjei Asante, as the District Chief Executive (DCE). The nominee  Godfred Kwabena Adjei had 11 ‘Yes’ votes out of 23 assembly members present during the time of voting. After the voting, some agitated New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters besieged some assembly members to demand money they allege was given to them a 100 per cent vote in favour of the nominee. A patriot in an interview with JoyNews revealed that an amount ranging from ¢1000 to ¢4000 was given to each assembly member. The Assembly members have sternly refused to pass any comments regarding the allegations raised by the NPP members  It took the intervention of the personnel from the Ghana Police Service to calm the atmosphere.

Police Arrest Five (5) More Suspects Including A Young Boy In Relation To The Anlo Afiadenyigba Robbery

Anlo-Afiadenyigba Robbery- Police Arrest Five (5) More Suspects Police in the Volta Region have arrested ten (10) armed robbers who robbed a company and occupants of a vehicle at Anlo-Afiadanyigba. The first arrest occurred on the 2nd of October at   11.30 pm at Afiadenyigba in the Volta Region by a joint team of police officers and people of the town. They attacked a shop and shot into a vehicle but no casualty was recorded.The arrest of five more suspects has totaled the number of arrest to 10. Kudos to the Ghana Police for the good work.

Demolition Of Budumburam Camp Placed On Hold

The planned demolition of the Budumburam camp which was scheduled to have taken place on the 30th of September has been postponed due to the cries of some of the refugees. Mr Tetteh Padi who is the Executive secretary of the Ghana Refugee Board stated that the board has  found an alternative shelter for the refugees and they will be moved away from the Budumburam camp. Mr. Tetteh Padi speaking on the Accra-based Citi FM, said  that "Government is sensitive to the plight of refugees so the actual demolition has been put on hold while we give them time to make alternate arrangements for shelter. "For the rest of the population, they still have a little bit of time to make alternative arrangements."

SAD NEWS; Fire Officer Drowns In An Attempt To Rescue 3 People From Drowning In A Well.

It has been reported that a fire officer with the Agona Swedru fire service in the central Region,  Assistant Station Officer Joseph Aidoo has lost his life in an attempt to save the life of some three individuals who were drowning  in a well at Gomoa Obuasi in the Central Region. According to citinews , the three fellows who were working on the well had mistakenly  felled inside & this prompted the community members to call the fire service for support.  The deceased, Assistant Station Officer Joseph Aidoo in an attempt to save the victims got drowned in the well. The three persons have been removed and are currently receiving treatment at the Agona Swedru Hospital.  The family have been drowned in sorrows since the news of their beloved was broken to them. Ghanaian media personality  Nana Aba Anamoah shares a sad story of how a guy she helped by recommending him to a friend for a job  teamed up with other workers to steal a huge sum of money from the company. Sad News; Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Floods as a result of Heavy downpour

The Cape Coast Teaching Hospital has been been  flooded  after 6 hours of heavy downpour. The COVID-19 Treatment Centre and some various wards have been affected by the flood. Most homes in the central region has also been flooded as a result of this heavy downpour leaving many residents stranded. T he Public Relations Officer of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Frederick Nyankah, has assured the general public that the situation was under control.  According to him, the affected patients had been moved to a holding bay whiles cleaners are working to restore services at the hospital.  Some houses and schools were not also spared, teachers had to result to closing schools earlier than the normal hours. The Deputy Central Regional National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Director, Francis Ekow Amponsah, said a team has been deployed  to the various houses to rescue those stuck in their homes.

Budumburam Camp To Be Demolished Today.

  Budumburam camp to be demolished today 30th September 2021 amidst the cries of some  refugees  at the camp.   The Budumburam Camp became the home of Liberian refugees after it was opened by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in 1990.  It was initially home to some 12,000 refugees. It also houses refugees from Sierra Leone who fled their country’s civil war between 1991 and 2002. The decision for the demolition of the camp came about as a result of the complaints  raised by the chiefs and people within the locality as to the area or the camp now been the hideouts and home to criminals.   The District Chief Executive for Gomoa East, Solomon Darko Quarm said t he demolition exercise is set to target only  portions of the camp which is alleged to be harboring most criminals. 

Abandoned, delayed projects by MMDAs cost Ghana GHS35.4M – Audit report

  Abandoned and delayed projects cost Ghana GHS35.4 million in 2020 according to an audit report released by the Auditor-General on the use of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF). The figure forms part of contract irregularities committed by various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) totalling GHS45.69 million. Despite these gaps, the Auditor-General’s department noted that MMDAs still awarded fresh projects when earlier ones had not been completed. This led to a suspension of work because of non-payment of work certificates. For example, the North Gonja District Assembly spent GHS370,270.24 on four projects awarded in 2016 but have been abandoned at various stages of completion. The Sefwi Akontombra District assembly awarded the construction of a Police Station at Akontombra worth GHS256,541.01, out of which GHS237,051.37 had been paid to the contractor.
